Swindon Grand Prix

In order to promote and reward player participation in Swindon Chess Events and other tourneys in the wider region, we will be operating a Grand Prix in which players, at no extra cost to themselves, will be automatically enrolled when they register in participating tournaments.

Player Participation Rules:

1. A player is eligible to receive Grand Prix points and appear on the standings if they have played in a registered event.
2. The player is deemed to have played in the event if they have played at least one game in that tournament.
3. All points scored (i.e. wins, draws, byes and defaults) will contribute to their score in the tournament.
4. The points scored in the tournament will be converted into Grand Prix points by multiplying their score with an "Event Type Modifier"
5. The Event Type Modifier will be: 4 for standard play, 2 for rapid-play and 1 for blitz events.
6. The summation of all Grand Prix points received across all participating tournaments will be used to determine final standings.
7. Where 1 or more players finish with the same number of Grand Prix points, the cash prizes will be split.

Tournament Participating Rules:

1. Tournaments wishing to participate in the Grand Prix must register (with Swindon Chess Events) and announce (to the players) their intention to do so before the 1st round is played.
2. All eligible tournament events or sections MUST be FIDE Rated.
3. Multiple sections of a tournament will count as a single tournament as long as they have the same time controls and playing schedule.
4. Every participating tournament will provide a contribution to the prize fund based on the number of rounds and the rate of play.
5. The minimum contribution levels will be: £50 per round for a standard tournament; £25 per round for a rapid-play tournament; and £10 per round for a blitz tournament.
6. All player and tournaments results are to be provided (to Swindon Chess Events) within 1 week of completion of the tournament.
7. The 2026 / 2027 season will run from 3rd Friday of August 2026 (21/08/2026) to the 3rd Friday of August 2027 (20/08/2027)

Currently the participating tournaments for the 2026 / 2027 season are:
Swindon Chess Congress August 2026 - Contribution: £300 (6x50)
Swindon Rapid-play October 2026 - Contribution: £150 (6x25)
Swindon Rapid-play March 2027 - Contribution: £150 (6x25)
This will be updated with additional tournaments that may later join.

The Guaranteed Prize Fund is currently at £600 and has been allocated as follows:
1st Place: £300
2nd Place: £200
3rd Place: £100
